What does Jewish life in Tulsa look like? Is it a fit for how I practice?
Jewish life in Tulsa is warm, welcoming, and diverse. There’s no expectation around how you practice or how often you show up — we have interfaith families, people raising Jewish kids, folks who are rediscovering their Judaism, recent transplants, observant Jews, and everything in between.
The community is primarily made up of strong Reform and Conservative congregations, with a small Orthodox presence as well. For many people, this provides a meaningful, connected, and attainable way to be Jewish.
For those living a fully Orthodox or frum lifestyle, Tulsa can be more challenging. There are no kosher restaurants or exclusively kosher grocery stores, and the most walkable neighborhoods aren't always clustered near Jewish spaces. Many who keep kosher at home shop at Trader Joe’s for meat and eat vegetarian/vegan when dining out.
We want people to thrive here, not just manage, so we prioritize people whose day-to-day practices can realistically be supported by the community and the infrastructure that exists here.
